Doughnut Employee Prints A Classic Mitch Hedberg Bit On Receipts And It's Awesome
Yahoo!-An employee at a Chicago doughnut shop was recently “given the ability to control what gets printed on the receipts” and promptly did what any Mitch Hedberg fan would do: pay tribute to the late comedian’s doughnut routine. “This is the first thing I did,” Jon Becker, a 27-year-old staffer at Stan’s Donuts, wrote on Reddit, posting an image of a receipt’s footer bearing the quote from Hedberg’s standup set. “I don’t need a receipt for a doughnut,” Hedberg says in the routine. “I’ll just give you the money, you give me the doughnut. End of transaction. We don’t need to bring ink and paper into this.” According to Becker, not many people noticed. “Most customers probably thought, ‘Jeez, this receipt is long,'” Becker told Yahoo News. “Very few people read all the stuff that gets printed on receipts. The few that did actually read it thought it was pretty funny, though.”
I’m an absolute sucker for stuff like this so if you don’t like stand up comedy you can just move along to the next blog or watch yesterday’s Rundown again. I love what this doughnut guy is doing. Just brightening people’s days in a creative way using a bit from one of the great stand up comedians. I’m a big stand up comedy fan. For the most part life is just whirling dervish of awfulness. You wake up, you sit in traffic, you do stuff you don’t want to for people you don’t wanna do it for, you leave, you sit in traffic again, you get home, maybe you have a few drinks and then you go to sleep. And repeat. But among that muck there’s this thing called stand up comedy and it’s fucking awesome. The purest form of comedy. Dudes standing on stage just slaying crowds. And we’re not talking about guys like Dane Cook, Kevin Hart and Aziz Ansari. We’re talking about guys like Carlin, Chappelle, Rock, CK, Murphy, Seinfeld, Regan. Those guys were/are great. And Hedberg was one of the greats too. No doubt about it. His rhythm, his cadence, the wittiness of his one liners. All great. If you haven’t listened to much Hedberg I strongly recommend you do so. It’s fantastic. How did we get here again? Oh yeah the doughnut guy. Good work by him. Any fan of stand up comedy is good in my book.
PS- Here’s audio of Hedberg doing the bit.
